Lonnie Weaver & Genesis
Pastor Lonnie Weaver founded Rev. Lonnie Weaver and Genesis in 2005. Since the group's inception, they have performed all over the United States. The idea of singing God's praises has been a mantra of each of the group members for nearly all of their lives. All the members of Genesis are members of various churches that have helped shaped their theological discourse and their perception of what it means to lift the Savior up.
It was the violent way in which Pastor Weaver father died that drove his passion to step up the gift of singing; it was always inside of him. Singing became his coping mechanism. The correlation between a loved one being killed and stirring up the gift inside of you is drawn from the hurt and the healing that one needs in order to cope with tragedy.
Genesis has performed in large cities and small towns with a kind of enthusiasm that follow the likes of rock stars; however, they give all the glory to God. The many talents of the group include playing many different instruments and singing many different vocal parts. Like so many other groups before them who paved the way, Genesis has remained faithful to the call to serve the Lord through songs, which uplift the soul and heals the hurt of God's people.
The members of the group are, Rev. Lonnie Weaver, lead singer, New Canaan Baptist Church, Jonathan Weaver , key board, First Baptist church Graymont, Arael Bland, bass guitar, Big Bee Valley C.M.E. church, Antonio Rice, keyboard, Divine Healing Temple, Herbert Petty, lead guitar, Union Grove Baptist church, and finally, Marcus Johnson, background, Pine Grove Baptist Church, West Point, Mississippi.
